We still have a good week and a half of ice cream month, and it’s not just for eating the delicious treat, but for wearing it too.
With some nail polish and washi tape magic (what can’t that wonderous crafting material do?) you can make cute little ice cream cones and sprinkles on your nails for a fun and summery manicure. I warn you though, it may make you want to eat ice cream constantly.
If you have a brightly coloured nail polish selection and some washi tape you’re pretty well ready to go. While it’s pretty easy and straightforward, give yourself some time to do this manicure – nails should never be rushed! There have been too many times I thought I could quickly put on some colour and go about my day only to have bright pink smeared all over my fingers. Not a pretty look people.
So put on your favourite netflix flick, grab your polishes and let’s beauty up those finger tips ladies.
Materials
- Nail polish – base coat, top coat, white, and any bright colours you have
- A toothpick
- Washi tape – preferably brown, orange or gold
- Small scissors
Steps
1 Apply a base coat first. When dry, paint your nails white. If you need two coats, allow the first to dry thoroughly before applying the second.
2 Cut small triangles from your washi tape. If you have shorter nails like me, you may be only able to make them for your thumbs and ring finger. If all your nails are long then have fun and cut out 10 cone shaped triangles! Cut them however large for each nail, but make sure there’s a few centimetres clearance for the ice cream.
3 Place your washi tape cone triangle on the bottom centre of your nail, pressing down firmly to adhere.
4 Paint a bright colour on top of the washi tape cone for the ice cream. Be sure to paint a little on the wash tape so the ice cream is on top of the cone. This gives it a little more of a realistic look. Once dry, seal the ice cream cone with a thick layer of top coat. Allow to dry completely.
If you’re like me (aka can’t keep their nails all long) and just want a few accent ice cream cone nails, you can add sprinkles on all your other nails instead. Dip a toothpick into a colour, then lightly stroke onto your nail to create a short line. Repeat with several different colours, but be sure to wipe the toothpick between each colour (or have one toothpick per colour).
If you want to get real wild you could even do this on top of the ice cream colour!
Now you can wave your hands around like you just don’t care! But I highly recommend you eat a lot of ice cream when sporting these bad boys.
Now freshen up those nails and grab yourself a real ice cream cone to go with it!
