At the infamous Saltspring Farmer’s Market a few weekends ago (where I met Raffi…tres cool) Ryan bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers for our anniversary. The flowers were gorgeous and lush with a wild air, but I must admit that what equally caught my attention was what the clever farmer used to house each flower bunch – a milk carton.
It was just your standard 1L milk carton with the top cut off, and I knew instantly I’d glam it up as soon as I got home.
This super simple DIY is a cute way to give a bouquet of flowers as a gift. You can really glam it up for a birthday gift to a dear friend, or simply spray paint several for floral arrangement party favours for a bridal shower or some other darling and feminine event.
So versatile, so affordable, so easy and sweet.
To make these milk carton vases, you’ll need:
- An empty milk carton
- An exacto knife
- Spray paint and/or acrylic paints with a paint brush
- Tape, if you want to get decorative
- A bunch of flowers
Of course you can get fancier and add ribbon or glitter. That’s the beauty of this project – it’s completely versatile.
I finally created another video (hooray!), and this one shows you just how I transformed my milk carton into a flower vase. Enjoy!

Have you ever repurposed items from your recycling bin?

Adorable! I never would’ve guessed this started out as a milk carton. What a great idea for party centerpieces. The best part of the video, of course, is your peekaboo at the end. You’re the cutest!

That’s the best part! I love using recycled items and totally camouflaging them

Cool video! :). This summer we made a cereal box piñata using a big/family-size Cheerios box (there is a photo of it on my Instagram). So fun to make, not to mention super-easy.

Fun! Pinata making is the best

Isn’t the dinner plate dahlia stunning? And truly the size of a dinner plate…
