Lucy may be a dainty looking kitty, but she ain’t a dainty eater.
Like any cat or dog, Lucy tends to get water and food spilled around her dish. So I thought up this easy and pretty way to make her a little food mat to catch all her spills before they mess up the floor.
In conjunction with yesterday’s Squirrelly Expert on dog grooming I bring you this simple DIY for your pet, dog or cat.
Extra thick foam sheet is best so your pet’s food dish can sit snuggly inside.
1 Use the bottom of your pet’s food dish to trace two circles in the foam board. Make sure they’re far enough apart that both dishes can stand next to each other. Cut out the circles with your exacto knife. Test to see if the dish sits inside the hole nicely. You may have to make it a teensy bit larger.
2 Use acrylic paint to paint your pet’s name on the foam sheet. I started using this stencil but didn’t like how it looked. I then tried to fix it with that horrible curlycue on the end of the c. This isn’t my best calligraphy friends. I recommend just free handing it.
3 Decorate with paint. I made my masking tape confetti stencil (see here) and painted several dots on the bottom and fewer up top to make it look like falling confetti. (too bad Lucy you have to live with my polka dot fetish too!)
4 Place self stick rubber pads on each corner of the bottom of the mat. This will prevent it from slipping.
Voila! A pretty and very simple way to catch all your kitty or puppy’s eating mess. And since it’s so easy and cheap it’s a cinch to make a new one when your pet makes too many messes for it to be clean anymore. I foresee myself happily making a new one whenever this one is no longer white.
And to wrap it all up I’m incredibly excited to show you our very first video!!!! (yes multiple exclamation marks!)
I say our because my loving husband, knowing how much I had on my plate and knowing how badly I wanted to make this video, took the scenes I shot and edited them to create this video, along with his guitar playing. I’m so thankful and excited that we did it!
