Hard to believe it’s the last day of July, and the last day of national ice cream month! We’re in the thick of summer now, and sometimes a cold beverage just doesn’t cut it. That’s when ice cream is not an option. Let’s thank our friends from the 50’s for inventing the ice cream float shall we?
(Actually it was apparently invented in 1874, but when it comes to ice cream floats I have visions of poodle skirts and vinyl chairs race through my mind.)
This twist on the ‘ol American classic is refreshing and adult fun. And trust me, if you aren’t a fan of whiskeys and bourbons (like myself) the sweetness of the pop and ice cream will even it all out. Just ignore the sugar content. Here’s what to do:
1 Fill a glass halfway with root beer, then add one ounce of bourbon.
2 Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and, once all the fizzing has settled down, top with root beer.
3 Stick a straw in it (optional) and enjoy!
Following the same instructions as above, here are some more fun variations to enjoy with that summer sun!
Happy sipping!
