As I mentioned yesterday, I went camping over the weekend for my bff’s 30th birthday. Because this was no ordinary camping trip a little bit of glitz and decor was in order. So I decided to make this camping appropriate waterproof bunting. Doesn’t it look darling hanging over that hammock?
Waterproof decor is key when camping, especially if you camp on the beach like we did. That morning fog will inevitably roll in and ruin anything made with pretty paper. Using plastic tablecloths ensures the bunting will stand up to any fog or rain that comes your way.
1 Cut the plastic tablecloths and silver paper into rectangles (mine are about 4×6). Unravel your twine (don’t cut until the end) and lay it over your first rectangle, about 1 inch from the top, leaving about 2-3 feet of extra twine on the end to use for tying around trees.
2 Place a piece of double sided tape over the twine and remove the backing.
3 Fold the top over the double sided tape.
4 Press down to seal and repeat, alternating coloured rectangles along your twine. I spaced mine approximately 3 inches apart. Cut your twine at the end, again leaving about 2-3 feet.
5 (below) Wrap up your bunting around a toilet paper roll for easy storage and travel.
Because you’re camping, you have to pack light and smart. Rolling the garland around a toilet paper roll is an easy way to keep the bunting organized, and made it even easier to wrap around the tree. No string is getting tangled up with this method!
Just overlap each rectangle on top of each other and carefully roll the bunting around the toilet paper roll. Wrap the twine ends around the roll and voila!
And because I promised it yesterday, here are some pictures of our trip. I like to think I saved that stranded little red starfish (mister red) when put him back in the ocean. And MY GOODNESS that waterfall in the cavernous, moss covered rock was just STUNNING. The picture does not do justice.
