Last week we dyed some eggs using tissue paper. This week we’re keeping it plain and simple, and putting them on a string. Yup! Instant Easter Egg garland that you can hang in your home for the Easter season. So simple. So fun.
You’ll need to hollow out the eggs. I’m sorry. This task is not fun. These guys have the right idea.
You don’t need to use twine. Any colourful thread will do.FYI: some of my eggs have larger holes than they should….I got impatient and light headed when blowing out all those yolks. Ideally they should be the width of your needle like the egg above.
Oh and another FYI, make sure your eggs are thoroughly washed out and dried before doing this. You don’t want yolk remnants to start reeking up your house days after right?
1 Cut your twine to the length you want your garland plus a little extra for either side. Tie a knot at one end leaving about 4 inches extra. Thread the other end with a large needle.
2 Push your needle through the narrower end of the egg.
3 Pull the needle and the thread through the hole at the bottom of the egg. Push the egg to the top of the knot you made in step 1.
4 Tie a knot at the bottom of the egg. You should have a knot at each end of the egg. This will keep it in place.
Continue steps 1-4 with all your eggs – knot, thread egg through, knot. Make sure you always start with the narrow end of the egg so they all hang the same way, and be sure to leave another 4 inches or so extra at the end of your garland. You can use these ends to either tie the garland on to something or tape them on a wall.
This garland is delicate (obviously) so use it carefully and keep it out of reach from miniature hands. Our egg garland is currently hanging above our kitchen window and will most likely stay there for the rest of the year. Kitchen, eggs, it works right?
You can also hang it on a wall and be a goof in front of the camera.
I left my eggs plain white for a more natural feel, but of course you can dye your eggs any colour(s) to change the look.
There you have it. A fun and different way to decorate with eggs for easter.
