Welcome back!
While it was intensely busy, this Easter long weekend was full of fun! …And food, my god the food.
You may know that Friday was my fiance’s 30th birthday. (side note, today is our 2nd anniversary!) We celebrated his birthday all day Friday, most of the events being a surprise to him.
Curious? Here’s what the day looked like.
Morning: Breakfast, presents (gardening tools galore) and getting ready for afternoon festivities (balloons!).
2:30pm: Friends arrived at our home for the BBQ, but then I kicked Ryan and everyone out for a surprise brewery tour at favourite local brewery! (oh all the delicious free beer samples).
4:30pm: We headed back to our place for a wonderful BBQ. Thankfully the sun was shining so brightly and it was an absolutely beautiful day! Ryan doesn’t like cake, so we had birthday pie instead.
I got the idea from Jordan at Oh Happy Day – everyone drew a picture of Ryan now at 30, and 30 years from now at 60. The collection is fantastic and such a great keepsake!
8:30pm: People left at 7:30pm. Friends who made the ferry trip over from Vancouver said good bye as they had to catch the 9pm ferry home. I told Ryan we were finishing his birthday with a quiet evening together at one of his favourite martini bars. We get there and waiting for us were several friends, including those sneaky ones who didn’t have to catch the ferry after all. Hooray!
The most important thing to me in throwing this milestone birthday party was firstly, that Ryan and everyone had a good time, and secondly that everyone could make it out. As you get older it gets harder to get people together due to children, work schedules, monetary restrictions etc. So I found the solution. It’s a little more work on the hostess’ part, but it makes for a day full of various fun activities and an overall well rounded celebration.
Come back Thursday for some fun DIY projects I made for this party

What a fun celebration! I love the idea of multiply activities to allow for flexibility, so thoughtful! Happy anniversary!
