Well between yesterday’s post and today, I’m kinda feeling like the queen of last minute DIY’s. Even the wood and glass bud vase was thought up and created in one night, then photographed and posted the next. I dunno guys, I think I just like to work under pressure. That and procrastination. Ahhh my university habits stay strong.
So the idea for this cake was sitting in the back of my head for a while. I walked into the grocery store, saw white meringues and white cotton candy – BOOM. Done. Yep, this bad boy was thought of, created, photographed, and posted all just yesterday. So if I can do all that in one day, this is definitely a last minute creation you can put together for Christmas dinner. Hooray for no baking and assembly only! Who knew ‘assembly required’ would be such sweet words to our ears.
- A grocery store cake
- Cotton candy
- Meringues
- Rosemary sprigs
- Bottle brush trees
- Mini deer figurine
The cotton candy acts as a fantastic snow base. First cover your cake with this. Next pop on your meringues. I created meringue trees by stacking three on top of each other. To get them to stick, run the tip of a meringue under hot water for just a couple seconds then stack a meringue on top, gently pressing together to adhere the two together. Repeat this for a third meringue.
I then stuck in bottle brush trees and rosemary sprigs for some added greenery. I also circled the bottom of the cake with rosemary sprigs. Lastly was the mini deer figurine. Of course you can play around and add whatever items you like.
I have a ton of fun with grocery store cake hacks. Converting Squirrelly babes massive sheet cake into a layered rectangle cake was probably the most rewarding for the challenge, but this one was just so fun to put together. A perfect (and pretty) little treat for the holidays!
