We get our houses and our own wardrobe all fancied up and festive, so why not a little festive fun for our pets?
No, I’m not one of those people who dresses their cat up, and whenever we own a dog I won’t do that to him/her either. But a fancy collar is a simple and sweet way to add a little festive fun into your kitty’s ‘wardrobe’.
Doesn’t it just instantly make Lucy all Christmassy?
The best thing is, it’s easy and cheap. So if your cat absolutely hates it you don’t have to feel bad about the project failing.
Materials
- 1.5 inch red ribbon
- 1 set adhesive velcro rounds
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
1 Take one piece of ribbon (approx 24 inches long) and tie into a pretty bow. Take a second piece of ribbon and use it to measure your kitty’s neck. You want it to fit like a collar – not too tight for obvious reasons, but also not too loose. I unfortunately made Lucy’s a tad loose at first and she managed to get her foot caught in it while walking. The perfect size should allow for two fingers to fit under the ribbon.
2 Hot glue the bow onto the centre of the measured ribbon.
3 Place each velcro round on opposite ends of the ribbon. You’ll want to make sure one round is on the underside with the other is on the top side so that when you form a circle with the ribbon the two pieces connect. Place on your kitty and have some festive fun!
You could also add some faux every green bits or jingle bells to up the festive look and feel.
We once tried to put a bell on Lucy’s collar. Poor girl freaked out about having this mysterious sound follow her everywhere she went.
Moral of the story – make sure your cat is okay with having bells on before glueing them to the collar.
Wishing you and your furry friends a festive time!
