I was invited to participate in a pretty cool DIY blogger competition by DaWanda. A mystery package was sent in the mail and I had to create a craft out of it. What was in that package? Fimo clay!
I have never used fimo before (aside from perhaps as a youngin’ in elementary school) so I was really excited about this challenge. And what did I come up with? An adorable little animal figurine (squirrel of course) covered in glammy gold flecks.
And it’s super easy for you to make your very own.
Materials
- Fimo clay
- Animal cookie cutters
- Gold leaf
- Modge podge
- Paint brush
Steps
1 Gently press your animal cookie cutter into the fimo clay all the way to the bottom. Lift and gently press out of the cookie cutter.
2 Place on a tray and allow to dry for 24 hours. You can microwave it but I prefer to leave it overnight so I can manipulate the shape. In about 5 hours you’ll want to check on your shape and make sure it stands on its own. If not you may have to widen the base. If there are any cracks, smooth them over with wet fingers.
3 When dry, brush your figurine with modge podge and place gold leaf on top. Gently smooth out the gold leaf with a dry finger or tissue.
4 Place on your mantlepiece or shelf to cute-ify the space.
This little guy looks so cute on the shelf!
If you like mister gold squirrel I would totally appreciate it if took a minute to vote! All you have to do is like the photo on the “Say it with Clay” facebook page. You’re the best!
What animal would you make?
