We’ve really gotten into the UK show Being Human. Don’t let the lame sounding plot of a vampire, werewolf and ghost living together turn you off. The wit, hilarity and drama in this show makes it absolutely incredible.
But I’m not here to talk about my new favourite show. I’m here to talk about what I spotted on my new favourite show.
A ladder bookshelf.
I know it’s old news but repurposed ladders are brilliant no?
And it got me thinking, what other kind of amazing uses are there for ladders in the home?
I couldn’t resist scouring the net and in result found some fantastic ways to convert that rickety old ladder and make it useful in your home again.
Note: wooden ladders preferred.
This old wooden ladder featured in the Aussie magazine Inside Out is not longer safe for climbing, but stack on some bright coloured slabs of wood and you have yourself a unique, rustic bookshelf.
Red Online featured this smart use photographed by Loupe Images/ Claire Richardson. What a perfect way to showcase your heels.
Found on Man Made DIY, the ladder night table, a project the silly little procrastinator named Tan has wanted to do for nearly 10 years.
From Apartment Therapy, suspend a ladder from your kitchen ceiling for a space saving pot rack.
Remodelista showcased this home with a ladder propped up in the living room with throws and blankets hanging off it for easy and pretty storage.
Does anyone else want to venture out and rummage through junk yards now?

I do like the little ladder / nightstand combo – it’ll work for any height bed
Tan says
wouldn’t it be great?
Stephanie says
What a great idea! My favorite is the ladder used to display heels. ๐
Sarah Marie says
Oh, what fun!! I love repurposed stuff. Really like the first one and the night table.

Love that show!! The remake (US) really sucked, so don’t bother with it. just fyi. Also, the ending of Being Human or that season at least is killer, just a warning!!
As for ladders, *check* have one in my living area with all my old vintage cameras and birdnests on it. Great idea!!
Heather (the lovely cupboard) says
I’ve been searching all the antique malls and flea markets in my town for an old ladder…no luck yet.

Love ladders for shelving rather than climbing ๐ Love the bedside table idea – haven’t seen that before.
Tan says
@Stephanie: Handy isn’t it?
@Sarah Marie: So do I! It’s so great to give broken down items another use
@Crystal: Oh I have no doubt the US version is not worth watching! And how am I not surprised you have a ladder in use in your home ๐ Awesome
@Heather: Ohhh good luck! They may be too popular an item to last long, much like vintage kitchen scales here!
@Janis: I’m not a fan of climbing ladders but yes! As shelving no problems!
