Last week I shared our oh so exciting Moroccan honeymoon plans!
When searching for our honeymoon we didn’t want the normal resort getaway (though I wouldn’t mind a few days toward the end to unwind). Our #1 priority was to experience a rich culture in a place we had never been.
If you’re looking into booking a unique honeymoon (or just a fun adventure!) here four other options we explored:
Ryan is a permaculturist. I love to garden. We both come from farming backgrounds. With these three factors combined and with a desire to see real Cuba, the Organic Cuba Tours from The Urban Farmer was a definite possibility.
I spotted this site years ago and have dreamt about it since. It’s your own private home on a private beach on a private island off the coast of Honduras, all for $130/night. How incredible is that!? The catch? Bare bones accommodation, including no electricity. But when you’re on your own private island who needs TV or lights anyway? Just stare at the stars.
I vetoed this one pretty quick since I have been to São Miguel and, since it is where my family is from, will no doubt be back. And when we do go, it will be an island hopping trip of all the Açores. Since I have been and my family is from there, I can safely say this trip will be an incredible one, filled with bananas ripe off the tree, the freshest most delicious pineapple, locally grown and brewed tea, geyser cooked food and gorgeous pastures and a volcano heated beach.
We seriously considered Ethiopia as our honeymoon destination. I can’t describe why, and this isn’t a trip for everyone, but we both have been drawn to this country for its beauty and relatively uncharted territory (at least as far as honeymoons go). In the end this trip was a little too steep for our wallets, but rest assured we will go (and perhaps live there) one day.
Last week I asked where you went or want to go on your honeymoon. Now I’m asking if money wasn’t an issue
Where would you go?

Horseback riding on the beach – any beach actually. I guess I’d have to get engaged first…

Me and my husband both quit our jobs and travelled for 6 months. We went to Italy, Egypt, Thailand, Loas, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, Borneo, and Indonesia. It was amazing, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. It is super cheap to travel in SE Asia. The prices are very affordable!

@rooth: That sounds amazing! I really wanted to do that when I was in Mexico but didn’t have the time 🙁
@Heather: WOW!!!!! That would just be incredible! I absolutely love when people put their day job lives ‘on hold’ for travel. The experience is SO worth it!

I lived in Ethiopia for a year! I’m not sure it’s the most romantic place, but it’s certainly wonderful. I’ve also been to Morocco and it’s much more romantic, I think. Good choice!

lol if we needed romance we would have done Venice 😉
Glad to hear Morocco is a good choice though from someone who has been!
