It’s tricky to be sneaky around Christmas time, particularly when you live in a small space, and especially if you live amongst those with prying eyes. I was happy to jump aboard when Wayfair asked if I’d join them in showing off how to hide presents from those pesky prying cohabitants.
Years ago I designed and built a square ottoman that I used to hide presents inside of. Sadly the style and bright red upholstery doesn’t work with our new place, so I was thrilled when Wayfair let me pick out this gorgeous storage ottoman. It fits beautifully into our new space, and has so much room inside for present hiding!
It’s perfect for storing away Christmas presents because of it’s depth and also because it can be easily disguised. Yes, the key to using a storage ottoman successfully for storing presents is to disguise it in the room. The most important thing to remember?
Don’t just leave your ottoman in the corner unadorned. Give it purpose that will make it blend in with the rest of the room. Turn it into a coffee table, topped with a tray full of books and a vase of flowers. Or make it a seating area piled high with fluffy pillows and throws. The more you turn your ottoman into a cohesive piece in the room, the less likely people will take off the flowers or pillows so carefully placed on top to open the lid and sneak a peek.
And just in case their curiosity is too much, throw a blanket or large books on top of all the presents so they think it’s just boring old storage.
ha! This is a hilarious post idea. My brothers always find their presents before Christmas, and I totally loved that about them. And what an awesome ottoman.
