Seasons / The Conductor / Little Book of Lettering / Identity Suite / Geo/Graphics
Above are either books I have and love or books I love and want. Some are informational; they’re all beautiful – the perfect coffee table book.
I often think, ‘wouldn’t it be amazing to publish a book?’. A real, live, sitting on your coffee table not in tablet form kind of book?
My friend Crystal Smith is trying to do just that. If you’ve been following Squirrelly Minds for a while you may be familiar with her artwork. I’ve been lucky to be part of her vision in some photo shoots and am always amazed at what she comes up with, which is why I’m so excited she’s started an Indiegogo campaign to publish her first book entitled Inedible Recipes: Beautiful Food.
It’s an unconventional cookbook where you can’t actually eat anything, but it all looks too good to eat. Crystal uses paint, glitter and other mediums to alter how we look at food and art.
I love that this book isn’t just showcasing art. Through her work, Crystal is encouraging you to play, to make art, to ignore steps (like many of us do in recipe books) and to make it your own. I don’t know about you, but these images make me want to stick a raspberry on my finger, dip it in paint and stamp all over something.
To see more pictures, watch a video, or to get this book on your coffee table by donating, check out Crystal’s Indiegogo campaign, and go make some inedible art!
Have a lovely weekend everyone.
