October has two birthstones – opal and tourmaline. Why did i choose to paint tourmaline? Honestly because I FAILED at capturing the essence of the opal. But I’m really glad the opal didn’t work out, because it forced me to learn about this stunning gem, and it’s definitely in my top five favourites. I just love the colours and textures!
Tourmaline is found in many colours, and some are bi-coloured, like the pink tourmaline I painted. Some even appear to change colour depending on the angle you’re looking at. Pink tourmaline represents hope, happiness and friendship.
