Don’t be ashamed if you’ve used paper plates for the convenience factor. I mean really, who wants to do all those dishes? But you know what really kicks up the tables setting? Painted paper plates you can eat off of.
Yep! Turns out food colouring acts as a pretty fantastic paint, and it’s an easy and beautiful way to personalize and dress up paper plates for your next party. Mind you, I can’t promise the plate won’t turn your food into a bit of a rainbow.
Shop the look: polka dot glasses / crochet placemats / west elm gold cutlery / blue jar / pink napkins / pink cupcake stand / yellow cupcake stand
Materials
- White Paper Plates
- Food Colouring
- Paint Brush
- Palette or bowls for food colouring
Steps
1 Place your food colouring in a bowl. If you’re using multiple colours, you can mix them or keep them separate in bowls. Have an extra bowl filled with water to clean your brush.
2 With your paint brush, write your guests’ name on each plate using your best hand lettering.
3 Decorate your plate with flowers, polka dots, stripes, stars, or whatever else fits your party theme.Be careful not to make them too pretty. Your guests might not want to eat off their plates!
These make for fantastic place settings that double up as escort cards. Bonus: you could have the guests create their own plates with a food colouring painting station! Kids will undoubtedly have a great time with this.
Happy painting with food colouring!
