I’m actually a little ashamed to show these photos because they’re that bad, and because I thought a little paint and cleaning would actually salvage the space. Oh how I was wrong.
When we did the walk through of our house, my first thought when we saw the basement suite was “it smells dry!”. That’s a huge bonus (/must if you’re smart) for a basement suite in these rainy parts. My second thought was “We’ll slap some paint on the wood panelling, give the carpets a good clean and it’ll be just like new”.
Day one into painting and we knew it it would all have to go.
These photos were taken during our walkthrough of the house so they aren’t the best quality. But why don’t we take a little walk through our old basement suite, from the kitchen, the living room, the two bedrooms, and the bathroom. It’s okay, I won’t be offended if you can’t look at all the photos of this ugly ugly space.
Looking back at these photos I can’t even believe it used to exist in our house. With four months of HARD work, we managed to transform this nasty 1970’s dungeon into a gorgeous, bright space. I can’t wait to show you the transformation! I know you’ll be totally shocked.
I’ll be sharing all the details on Wayfair this Wednesday, so come back to see how demolition, new walls, new flooring, blood, sweat and tears transformed this basement.
I’m a little jealous of our tenants who get to live there.

I absolutely cannot wait to see the transformation! The before is pretty claustrophobic (and all the wood… bleh)! I’m super excited to see this ‘After’ ๐
Tan says
Oh my gosh claustrophobic is exactly right! Yuck! The space is the complete polar opposite now. Can’t wait for you to see tomorrow!

Can’t wait to see the after photos! ๐
Tan says
I can’t wait to show them! I’m sad that the photos are on an empty space since it’s a rental suite. I just want to go in there and design the whole space myself! Maybe down the road we’ll rent it furnished ๐

This was last year right?Any updates?Did you renovate it again or nope?
Tan of Squirrelly Minds says
We did have to make changes to the second bedroom to convert it to my studio, and change the entrance so both us and the tenants could access the laundry, which we changed to a stacker. There weren’t any photos posted of these areas before or after the last renovation though
