We are nearing the end of our basement renovation and I have to say, as sad as I will be to have our house shrink by 50%, I can’t wait until the day we hand over the keys to our new tenants. Fingers crossed they’ll be good ones.
The renovation has been an incredible(/insane) learning experience. Would I have done things differently if I were to do it again? Oh heck yes. But that’s all part of the learning process right?
We’re about 1-2 weeks away from completion, and I will be the happiest person on earth if I never see another paint brush again. Seriously, I’m considering hiring professionals to paint our upstairs.
The above images give an idea as to how we designed our basement. We painted all the walls white to keep it clean, crisp, and absolutely neutral for prospective tenants. If it were my space I’d stick to cozy greys and steel blues, but I there is something spectacular about a white wall. The floors are medium dark laminate throughout, except the kitchen and laundry which have the previous vinyl, and the bathroom which has glorious tile that I adore. Tiling was by far my favourite project.
You can expect reveal pictures in the future, but for now, enjoy the hints above of what’s to come.
Now basement wall colour seems to be an interesting topic with opposing ideas. Some say the brighter the better, while others think dark rich tones enhance the coziness a basement inherently offers.

Wonderful spaces!

I’m definitely in the white, bright walls group because honestly basements can be a bit claustrophobic for me (especially if there are no windows at all), and nice bright colors like white open up the space and make it feel bigger and lighter. It also makes the space very versatile!
