Being the daughter of an aesthetician I was taught that having a regular beauty routine is essential for maximum results. Yet being a teacher I don’t always have the money to make that possible. And so it’s necessary to turn to at home spa projects.
Here are a couple tricks I use to keep my skin feeling smooth and healthy, all from ingredients found in my kitchen cupboard:
I like to find new uses for my coffee grounds, such as putting it in my garden for all my happy little plants. I also like to scrub my skin with it. Yes. Smear your mornings coffee grounds all over yourself for a refreshing exfoliating shower. Beware however, the olive oil can make your shower floor quite slippery!
Coconut oil is a staple in my kitchen, but there are so many other uses. Instead of expensive creams, I often use coconut oil as a skin moisturizer, applying it right after a bath. Tip to all you pregnant ladies, an old friend did this throughout her pregnancy to minimize stretch marks. It worked.
Yes, this sounds very much like my every day swiss muesli breakfast recipe doesn’t it? Well, it’s also good for the face. Make sure you use natural plain yogurt with an active bacterial culture. It has mild astringent and the zinc helps keep blemishes at bay while oats act as an exfoliant and the honey absorbs and retains moisture. Use dark and locally pasteurized honey for a higher antioxidant content.

I am going WAY overboard on the coconut oil but it feels so good and smells awesome. I’m so glad I bought a jar

I know isn’t it incredible? We bought a small jar to start off with and now buy the big 1.6L tubs. Love the stuff. Have you used it as butter on toast? It’s pretty great.

I’ve become kind of addicted to coconut oil – I now use it for everything! It smells so good I can’t resist 🙂

I know! I put it in my hair the other day. I made the mistake of not washing it out so my hair was disgustingly oily, but after washing it out my goodness it was noticeably richer looking

I love natural recipes… Lately I’ve become very picky with using only natural stuff

I’m starting to lean that way more too. There’s just so many things that natural plants can do just as well if not better than their man made chemical counterparts
