Last Friday was Ryan’s 30th birthday. Tuesday I blogged all about it, including some cute polka dot pendant flag straws. Want to make them yourself? Here’s the DIY!
Materials
– Straws
– Origami paper (or scrapbook paper) of choice (I <3 polka dots!)
– Photo mount squares
– Ruler
– Scissors
– Pencil
Steps
Step #1: Fold your paper into thirds lengthwise. Make sure they’re even.
Step #2: Fold in half twice until you get a rectangle with one folded edge.
Step #3: Using a ruler, measure the half way point and make a small mark with your pencil on the open (unfolded) edge of the rectangle.
Step #4: Again with your ruler, draw a straight line from that midway mark to the opposite corner. two times until you get a perfect triangle.
Step #5: Do the same from the mid point to the other corner to get a perfect triangle.
Step #6: Carefully cut it out. The end result will look like two triangles joined at the folded centre.
Step #7: Unfold one of your triangles and place a photo mount square in the centre and one end of a triangle. Remove backing. Lay the straw on top of the photo mount square on the folded centre.
Step #8: Fold over the paper so the two points of the triangle meet. Press down on the areas where the photo mount is placed so it will stick better, especially along the straw.
Display straws near drink glasses and party!
Putting a little bit of flair into ordinary things, such as straws, is always an easy way to simply make things fun. When one guest saw the straws she excitedly shouted “Is this actually happening!?”
Little details like this really bring that extra something special to a party, don’t you think?
