April 2010 in a London bar, a stylish woman walks up and says “I love your plaits!”.
I dutifully take a picture right after and have been calling braids plaits ever since.
I love braids. Just love them. I don’t know if that goes back to the 8 year old me with hair down to my butt, constantly with a braid to prevent my mammoth locks from tangling, but whatever the reason, I flippin’ love those plaits.
There’s something classic about the perfect braid. The neat, tidy weave running down your back reminds me of simpler times before blow dryers and hair product.
But I can’t lie, I love a little bit of product in my hair.
Whether they’re the headliner or just a little accent, braids are my go to hairstyle.

I SO love braids and have tried COUNTLESS times to try looks like these. I think my fingers get the jitters when working on my own hair..Suddenly it’s like I’m learning to braid (on my Barbie’s head) all over again. AGHH! Looks like you’ve mastered the art though.
