L-R: Alexa Winston / Kimbra / Solange / The Neighbourhood / M83 / Sky Ferreira / Ellie Goulding
Have you heard of Songza? It’s an incredible site/app with a ton of playlists, including ones for times of day and mood (Monday Morning – waking up happy!). Now normally music monday is for featuring an artist, but I just couldn’t help myself this time. For the past month I have been OBSESSED with the Girls: Marnie playlist. Songza has playlists for each of the 4 main characters from the HBO series Girls according to their personality and music played on the show. They’re all great, but Marnie’s is my absolute fave.
Here are my top picks from the playlist.
Guts by Alexa Winston
Settle Down (Justin Warfield Remix) by Kimbra (video is original version)
Losing You by Solange
Sweater Weather by The Neighbourhood
Midnight City by M83
Everything Is Embarrassing (Feat. Blood Orange) by Sky Ferreira
Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding
Here’s a description of each of the girls and their playlist from Songza.
Girls: Hannah
w/ Fiona Apple, Camera Obscura, Neko Case, Ryan Adam
Being a voice of a generation means listening to many voices from many generations. Revealing and personal, these singer-songwriters expose their true selves in a variety of musical settings. Expect some fun indie hits too, because a girl’s gotta party.
Girls: Marnie
w/ Santigold, Lykke Li, Stars, Robyn, Alex Winston
If you’re like Marnie, you’re sleek, smart and sophisticated. You think “edgy” is just a synonym for “sloppy.” Streamlined electro-pop with just enough cool is your scene.
Girls: Shoshanna
w/ Beyonce, Katy Perry, Spice Girls, Christina Aguilera
Everybody knows the best music came out when you were in high school. And what have all those hipster indie kids got to be so miserable about all the time? Obvi, music is supposed to be fun, you guys!
Girls: Jessa
w/ The Velvet Underground, T. Rex, The Pretenders
Some girls buy their music on import vinyl. Some girls think all the best rock ‘n’ roll was made between 1965 and 1984. Some girls think it’s important to stay cool even at their most impassioned. Jessa is one of those girls.
Which of the four girls are you?
