The reception was what I spent the most time visualizing and DIYing for, and it was so amazing to see it all come together, even more amazing looking back on it now. The night went off without a single hitch. Well, except for narrowly diverting this news headline:Yeah, our entrance for the first time as mr and mrs was nearly on fire. My dress got caught on the tent peg, which was right beside a citronella candle lit with a very high flame that was directly underneath my dress. Sadly the lace on my dress got ripped from being pulled, but thankfully we were able to untangle it from the peg just in time not to get caught on fire! Could you imagine!?
Thankfully the rest of the evening was smooth.
We had a flashmob dance at our wedding almost immediately. Oh yes. I contacted some people I thought would be interested, and my friend and owner of the studio I dance at, and where Ryan and I met choreographed a dance to Hey Ya by Outkast. We got together a few times before the wedding to go over choreo and danced it out on the dance floor almost as soon as we arrived. It was a great way to get the party started! Shortly after it was time for dinner.
When it came to deciding on caterers there was absolutely no question. I grew up with Portuguese caterers Casa Nova. They do every Portuguese wedding in the city and Ryan loves them so it was an absolute no brainer.

Like any good wedding, we ended the night with a whole lot of dancing. And an open bar, which I was too busy to enjoy. And in case you’re wondering,Yes I did change into matching rose gold high tops.

• The fabric garland that hung behind the head table and dessert table is from a DIY on The Lovely Cupboard
• Each table was decorated with antique books from our collection and some from my MoH’s.
• My dad built our beautiful ‘card house’, yet won’t admit his work is amazing. In case you’re wondering, we will be converting it to a doll house for our future daughter.
• People often asked us if we would really wait until our anniversaries to read the guest books. The answer is yes.
• Each table had a burlap and lacejar with a hen&chick from the yard and a tea cup or teapot with local flowers. We rented a box of chipped china for $5. Now that’s cost effective decorating.
• Our favours were handmade seed balls in hand stamped muslin bags. It felt so good to give something we designed/made entirely.
