Disclaimer: Some may not appreciate this post. If you are an extremely law abiding citizen (“I’ll never have balloon animals in public!” yes that is a ridiculous and unenforced law in my city) then this post isn’t for you.
Now I have a secret to tell you.
I’m a criminal of the night.
Let me explain.
I live in a city renown for its flowers. Gardens and beautiful blooms fill front yards, adorn public parks, city streets and public walkways.
Last night I went for a walk with friends.
Last night I unintentionally went flower picking….
Walking along a path there was a gorgeous, massive rose bush on the side. I was amazed at the clumps of roses off one stem. It was stunning. I figured it’s public property, the rose bush is massive, no one would mind if I took one of those bunches right?
We kept walking, me with a beam across my face.
I thought I’d stop there. Until I found some adorable little pink roses also bunched together. I thought they would compliment the large white roses so nicely.
So I snapped off a bunch.
Kept walking.
Snapped off a second bunch.
Kept walking.
Snapped off a couple bush sprigs.
Kept walking.
Snapped off a third pink rose bunch.
Complete.
I know it’s not exactly right but I just couldn’t stop at that one bunch of white roses. As we kept walking I kept finding more and more flowers that would compliment the bouquet and make it complete. I’ve never been much of a flower arranger but that walk certainly sparked that little florist me!
Don’t worry. I, The Flower Thief, will not make this a regular habit. But I must admit it is quite fun to see these beautiful flowers and create them into something entirely your own. After all, flowers are meant to be admired.
Not that I would condone sneaky behaviour such as mine last night, but if you so happen to be walking in a public place and notice a whole bunch of flowers, why not snap off a few and brighten your home with your foraged pretties? Special note, make sure it’s public and not someone’s home. I have to draw the line somewhere ๐
Have you ever gone flower foraging?

Where I lived in LA had the most beautiful roses and one night I was out and couldn’t help but snatching a bouquet from some garden… Glad to know I’m not the only one!
Tan says
I’m glad I’m not the only one either!

That’s hilarious. I have friends who go urban foraging for herbs. There’s a rosemary bush on my jogging trail and I know I would totally take a few sprigs if the opportunity came up
Tan says
Oh yes I fully endorse urban herb foraging! There are tons of herbs growing wild in alleyways and such and people just think they’re some sort of weed. They need to be put to use!
Definitely grab a bunch of rosemary ๐ You can stick sprigs directly into a ground to grow a new bush too

I like that….foraging…..it’s really no different from picking blackberries along fence lines, is it?
And snapping off seed pods of beautiful perennials – so you can have the same in your own garden the next year.
As someone said…..”ripe for the picking”…..
I condone….
Tan says
I think not, and people pick blackberries here all the time!

…forgot…….what a gorgeous bouquet….I can almost smell it!!

That is so funny! I can’t say that I’ve foraged flowers, but when I was a kid we used to forage blackberries at the park. Your bouquet is gorgeous!
Tan says
Fantastic! We too forage blackberries still. They grow like crazy here and will pop up in any abandoned area.

You are hilarious ๐ But your foraged flower bouquet is gorgeous – those are my favorite flowers!
Tan says
I was never much into roses before because I only knew of the long stemmed kind, but my goodness garden roses are incredibly gorgeous!
