WOOHOO! I BOUGHT MYSELF A LOOM!
Crap. Now what?
I’ve been obsessed with weaving for a number of years now – anyone remember this coaster weaving video from 2013? Shortly after that I learned that my maternal grandmother and paternal great grandmother were all weavers with their MASSIVE looms, stripping down old clothes and making linen from flax from their farm. YES. THEY GREW FLAX SEEDS AND TURNED IT INTO LINEN! CRAZY! I mean check out that photo below of the rug (actually intended to be a bed cover) my great grandmother made. Gorgeous isn’t it?

(No you aren’t seeing double – same room, different set up. The studio turned into the nursery, and now my downstairs studio looks absolutely pathetic, which is why you’ve never seen it and I rarely work in it). Anyway, so I kinda feel like weaving is in my blood, ya know?

My first introduction to weaving with a loom was at a weaving workshop where I made the weaving in the top photo for squirrelly babe when I was 8 months pregnant. Even though I was hooked I didn’t do it again cause, ya know, newborn babe and all. Not until I got my hands on a MASSIVE loom last May and got to try using pedals and all that good stuff. But then I didn’t do it again. No good excuse this time. Then yesterday I thought “I want to make a woven pillow case”. I was about to ask my friend if I could borrow hers but thought I’d try a local second hand app instead. 38×38 loom, $15! SOLD!

I won’t lie, I’m totally intimidated. I never warped a loom before, and now I’m just staring at a frame of wood with not much else. So I will youtubing TONS and check out all sorts of how to’s and easy projects. If you have any tips, PLEASE send them my way. If you’re in the same boat as me, enjoy these links!
