Once upon a time (really not all that long ago) I stumbled upon this post on asian pulled pork sliders. My first two thoughts were:
a) This blog is fantastically adorable (and informative!)
b) The girl likes pulled pork sliders. I immediately like her.
Welcome to Squirrelly Minds’ first feature on one of my favourite blogs by one of my favourite blogging people, Heather at The Lovely Cupboard
Here are just a few reasons why I adore Heather’s adorable blog:
- It’s adorable (as I mentioned)
- Her recipes are mouth watering
- Her DIY’s are ridiculously cute, smart, wallet friendly and easy to follow
- The soirees she throws are beyond inspirational
As an added bonus, she is one of the sweetest gals out there, and it shows through her blog.
Heather and I are both full time teachers who blog and make plans to move from teaching into a lifestyle that focuses on our creative side. The more I get to know Heather, the more I feel like we’re sisters separated at birth…a year apart…in different countries…because that’s possible…
I am so glad to have gotten to know Heather and her wonderful space at The Lovely Cupboard ๐
So without further ado, here are my three favourite posts, followed by a little interview with the girl herself.
Yay!

What is your favourite place in the house (or elsewhere) to relax and rejuvenate?
We nicknamed our den “the lodge” when we moved in. It’s sunken down a couple steps from the rest of the house and has wood walls and ceiling. I painted the wood white to give it a cottage-like feel. It has exposed brick walls and a fireplace that’s great for the winter. Almost two walls are windows which let in so much natural light in the mornings. This is where we spend the majority of our time. (It’s also the only room in the house with a TV and has the “comfy” couch.)
What is your guilty pleasure?
My guilty pleasure is mindless reality TV. I know it does nothing to stimulate my mind and is basically the enemy to always growing to-do list. Sometimes, you need to be able to watch other people make stupid decisions on TV and judge them from the privacy of your own living room. Am I right?
Sweet or salty?
Favourite weekend activity:
Cooking, eating, thrifting, and crafting. These are pretty much all the things I blog about too. (Notice long jogs or any form of exercise was nowhere on the list. I wish I was one of those people who actually enjoy exercising, but I’ve come to grips with the fact I’ll NEVER be one of those people.)
Note to Heather re exercise: We really are sisters separated at birth
What is your most treasured item?
My grandparents were missionaries all over Asia, and my mom lived on four continents before she was 22. Because of this, I’ve inherited some wonderful heirlooms that literally came from a world a way. I cherish each item that’s been passed down, but my favorite is a wooden chest from Indonesia. My mom had this since the 70’s and stored all of our family photos in it when I was growing up. I inherited it this year and started storing some of my photos in it. I imagine telling my (future) kids about the history of the trunk and how far it came just to “live with us”.
Why do you blog?
I started blogging because I was so inspired by other blogs to create and redesign aspects of my house. I wanted to join the cycle of inspiration and show others what I had done.
What do you see yourself doing in 5 years?
Well, I just turned 30, so it’s a little painful to think about being half way to 40 already! Blogging started as a hobby, but I hope one day in the not-so-distant future it will help to fund the projects and recipes that I write about. I’d love to be running a small business of some kind. I’m also hoping our family of two grows a bit in the next five years.
Thanks Heather for taking the time to answer a few questions!
Happy weekend and see you all over at The Lovely Cupboard

Hi! Visiting from Heather’s blog. I agree, it is adorable and yours is too.
I love all your wedding planning collages and inspiration. I love weddings and would plan them for a living if I wasn’t too scared to leap at my dream. Have fun and congratulations.
Best wishes for your and your fiance!

Thanks!
Planning someone elses wedding would be a bit scary due to the so called ‘bride-zilla’, but if it’s really what you want take the leap!!!! You’ll always wonder what it would have been like if you don’t ๐
