My sister with her adorable (then) 3 month old son arrived last month from England, later joined by her now fiance. Naturally everyone wanted to meet the little guy (and see the parents of course), so I hosted a late morning breakfast party – because breakfast is the best meal of the day (and because it’s when the little guy is most jolly).
The guests were kind enough to bring tons of treats: cookies, danishes, fruit skewers, lemon loaf. The list goes on and on. It really was a breakfast feast.
Before the event I looked through my pinterest to pick a few things I wanted to add. Here are some delicious, pretty, and easy things you can have at your breakfast party.
I have been making these baked eggs from Design Love Fest since I first saw them last year. (I learned from my sister’s English beau that they’re also known as eggs en cocotte, which I think sounds much prettier than baked eggs.)
They’re versatile, quick, dead easy and a total crowd pleaser. I’ve made them in a large glass dish before that was cut into servings, or if you’re okay with more dishes (and more cuteness) then make them individually in ramekins. If you’re crunched for time, prepare everything but the egg the night before. The morning of your party, throw in the egg then pop them in the oven.
Cinnamon Buns. You can’t really see them in this picture. There’s one last one tucked away under the glass covered cake plate. Only one because they were that good.
These orange cardamom cinnamon buns from Savory Simple were an unexpected treat. I knew orange and cardamom would go well together, but I didn’t know they would go this well with a cinnamon bun. I don’t think I can enjoy this gooey breakfast treat any other way now.
Just because a baby was present doesn’t mean we couldn’t enjoy a mimosa (or two). I loved this mimosa bar from Design Love Fest and couldn’t wait to make my own version. It was fun offering different kinds of juices. I went for the classic orange, peach, mango and pineapple. Aside from the classic, mango was my favourite.
I couldn’t resist putting my calligraphy pen to use. Creating labels with white ink on black paper makes a big impact with little effort. Sprinkle a little gold in there (I did with the twine on the mimosa bottles) and you’ve got yourself a sophisticated looking breakfast.
