Or as I like to say, Cinco de Maio.
(I can’t help it I’m Portuguese. It just looks better that way).
Every year me and a bunch of friends have celebrated Oktoberfest (just wait until September for my Oktoberfest post). It’s a huge party filled with costumes, pretzels and kegs. But we always felt we needed some celebration (i.e. excuse to dress up and party) in between. Only once a year in September is a long time to wait.
Tomorrow is the celebration of Mexico’s victory over the French army in 1862. What’s a better excuse to party and drink tequila!?
This year will be our first Cinco do Mayo celebration in Vancouver. Here are some things I have scoured the internet to help prepare for this day.
Oh Happy Day: This fiesta banner is a great way to brighten up the decor!
Texas to Mexico: Prepare an unexpected Mexican dish – chilaquiles! (basically Mexican lasagne, SO good)
Studio DIY: Make this adorable piñata and fill it with Mexican candies! (and mini bottles of tequila perhaps?)
Shop Tejas: Purchase online for next year, or scour thrift shops for a brightly coloured poncho and/or sombrero
Food Network: No Cinco de Mayo is complete without margaritas!
So we all know I’ll be donning a poncho, swilling back margaritas, baking then stuffing my face with chilaquiles and bashing the piñata, but I want to know,
How will you be celebrating Cinco de Mayo?

Those chilaquiles look delicious! We will be enjoying maragritas and grilled chicken fajitas this weekend. 🙂 Happy Cinco!

Yup. I think I’ll celebrate with a little tequila tomorrow! I haven’t made a pinata this year….now I’m full of regret. Have a fun weekend!
