When hosting this archery themed baby shower, I knew I wanted to decorate the mantel with fringe to match the garland, but I didn’t want something permanent that would damage the paint. By using washi tape, double sided tape, and gold glitter tape, I was able to create a fringe that looked polished and was safe to use. Yes, this DIY is tape galore.
Materials
- Measuring tape
- Tissue paper
- Scissors or paper cutter
- Washi tape
- Double sided tape
- Gold glitter tape
Steps
1 Measure your mantel. Cut tissue paper into rectangles of various sizes and colours, totalling the length of your mantel. Carefully cut each rectangle into strips, leaving a 1/4 inch margin at the top. A guillotine style paper cutter works great for this.
2 Clean your mantel, making sure there’s no dust or debris.
3 Lay a strip of washi tape all the way across the top of your mantel.
4 Lay a strip of double sided tape on top of the washi tape.
5 Place each piece of fringed tissue paper across the double sided tape. Make sure to keep it in a straight line right at the edge of the tape.
6 Cover the top with a strip of gold glitter tape all the way across the mantel.
There you have it!
Now one thing I regret not doing and highly recommend is, before cutting, to iron your tissue paper to make it as flat as possible. That way you avoid that wrinkly look I have going on.
Happy mantel fringing!
Check back tomorrow for the arrow straw and cupcake topper DIY’s.
On my mantel is a deer antler my dad found in their backyard.
It’s one of my most favourite items ever.
What’s your favourite item on your mantel?

So cute – love the colors you chose Tan – the baby shower looked adorable (and fun)! My favorite mantel piece is a no brainer – I’ve been lugging around this vase I made since high school – so far its been to my apt in chicago – apt in south carolina and now my new pittsburgh home – I love the organic shape and imperfections – I could never get rid of it – even though the average person would consider it as an ugly treasure 🙂 Cant wait for the cupcake toppers tomorrow!

It’s so often those pieces from our history that mean the most, no matter what they look like, right?
